Winter Road Maintenance Analysis
Our forensic engineers at FDi are experienced with accidents relating
to winter road maintenance. We address maintenance issues by first
reconstructing how the accident occurred. Next we investigate the roadway
friction and condition, by assimilating forcasts, meteorological data, maintenance
procedures and physical evidence. Finally, a determination is made regarding the
appropriateness of the maintenance activities preceeding the accident.
Anti-Icing
Since 1991, Forensic Dynamics Inc.
has been involved in issues relating to anti-icing campaigns. As of 1998, the firm has
been involved with a tremendous number of skid tests, in order to fully understand these
friction issues. In 1999, we constructed what is thought to be the world's first indoor,
climate controlled, friction test facility to accurately measure friction characteristics
under various temperature, humidity and application rates. As a result of this
laboratory based research, numerous friction papers have been authored by
Tim Leggett, P. Eng., P.E., Gerald Sdoutz, P. Eng, and Craig Luker, P. Eng.
Since this research has been completed, he has been asked to present our
work at many venues across North America. Clients include chemical manufacturers,
distributors, state and county agencies and the Federal Highways Administration.
